Building Inspector
Salary and Benefits: The City of Florence Planning Department is seeking a Building Inspector. The salary ranges from $40,622.40 - $46,299.00, DOE/DOQ . Full-time benefits include health, dental, vision, retirement, and supplemental insurance.
Job Description:
Under the general supervision of the City Planner, is responsible for the administration and enforcement of building codes and related ordinances of the City of Florence.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Reviews plans and specifications for building construction
- Issues building permits and-collects-appropriate-fees—
- Performs on-site inspections of new and remodeled construction at residential, commercial, and industrial site
- Examines work performed and materials used by contractors, property owners and the general public for compliance with appropriate ordinances and codes
- Confers with contractors, property owners for violations of code and the corrections needed
- Stays informed of new technical developments and trade practices
- Confers with City Manager and City Planner and appropriate outside agencies on more difficult inspections or where interpretation of ordinance or code is needed
- Assists City Planner in enforcing zoning ordinances, rules, and regulations
- Recommends changes to City ordinances to conform with changes in current laws
- Performs other related tasks as assigned by the City Planner
Responsibilities:
- Ensures that all duties listed, previously are performed efficiently and properly
- Responsible for maintaining a positive and problem-solving atmosphere and clearly assesses and completes all assigned tasks, permits and inspections
- Responsible for documentation of all inspections and manages the records of the building department
- Responsible for cooperating with supervisor, other departments, and co-workers with the overall benefit to the City as the primary focus
- Responsible for planning, scheduling, and organization of workload
- Responsible to be knowledgeable of all facets of the Building Department or to know where to obtain pertinent information
- Relates to the public in a professional and courteous manner at all times
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
- 2-year college degree in a related field desirable
- Any equivalent combination of education and experience equivalent to a 2-year degree
- Working knowledge of the Uniform Building Code and other applicable codes
- ICC-certification as building inspector within six months of placement in the position.
