Water Service Line Inventory Survey
On your May 2024 water bill, there's a web link connecting you to the Water Service Line Inventory Survey.
We'd appreciate your help in completing this to maintain the quality of our water system for CDPHE. See our FAQ below for more information! Thanks for your help!
What is this survey?
The City of Florence is asking residents to assist with maintaining the high quality of our water system by completing this survey on water line types. This water service line inventory is part of a nationwide initiative from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) being administrated in Colorado by the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE).
How long will the survey take to complete?
The survey should not take longer than five (5) minutes to complete. Please note you may have to enter your crawl space or find the location where your water service line enters your home from the outside in order to complete the survey. More information on this process is included in the survey link.
Why do we need your help?
CDPHE is requiring cities across Colorado to complete their lead service line inventories by October of 2024. As this survey focuses on the service lines between the meter and the home, asking residents to complete these surveys and self-report their water service line types potentially prevents residents from needing to allow the City to gain access to their homes to gather this required information.
How will the information be used?
After the survey is complete, CDPHE will require cities to develop a lead service line replacement plan based on survey results. No details of this plan are available at this time, as all aspects of the plan, including if it is even necessary to develop, will be based solely upon survey results.
Does the City participating in this survey mean there are dangerous levels of lead in my drinking water?
Not at all. The City of Florence does not produce corrosive water and has had no issues with lead contamination. CDPHE requires regular sampling for lead and copper, and Florence always produces samples that are significantly below the levels permitted by CDPHE regulations, including non-detectable levels of lead and copper in many samples. As stated above, this is part of a nationwide initiative from the EPA being administrated in Colorado by the CDPHE, and is not a reflection of any testing results or other concerns.
